Three Ships seeks a VP of Operations to scale vertical businesses within Three Ships. You will lead our charge into rapidly testing, building out, & operationalizing established and new categories that shape the future growth of our biggest P&L within the 3S Health business.

The ideal candidate will have experience at a growth stage company. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in a performance marketing and/or operational role.

Vice President of Operations will:

  • Own the P&L top to bottom, this role will have full ownership and responsibility of the P&L and needs to have an understanding of how to pull the right levers to drive continuous performance improvement from a revenue and operational standpoint.
  • Sit on 3S Health’s leadership team, reporting directly to the President and communicating regularly with the Board and key stakeholders to shape the overall strategy of the business.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of (currently 10 FTEs) to maximize performance in established verticals (industry categories) as well as rapidly test new ones with the goal of driving them to escape velocity through a series of agile pilot tests – producing, publishing, refining, and optimizing content, and investments to determine whether to scale or not.
  • Build and maintain a monthly Operational Plan to rapidly stand up, run, and track performance for each vertical. Lead with your cross-functional team to measure progress towards ‘full potential’ and improve traffic and revenue conversion through SEO, link building, channel optimization, and CRO initiatives.
  • Reporting on real-time performance at a detailed level (i.e. page-level, domain, brand partner); overseeing data passage and integration across systems; ensuring we have the right inputs for making tactical calls on performance levers.
  • Rinse and repeat: regularly review each vertical’s performance, decide to scale or shut down, and then launch the next vertical with your team.
  • Support communications with established partners
  • Build up a cross-functional team that spans the customer acquisition and content lifecycle: content editors, and writers; SEO analysts, analytics leads, CRO specialists, digital PR leaders, etc.
  • Mentor and establish career paths for junior content production employees through Directors, ensuring they are productive, engaged, and retained.
  • Conduct frequent competitor benchmarking and intelligence gathering -- including tracking our relative market share and identifying ways to close competitive gaps.
  • Chair weekly product management meetings, ensuring our testing is winning rank; also that we are building a cumulative knowledge base of all tests. Be the node of knowledge on what's working operationally to drive rank, traffic, and revenue.
  • In conjunction with 3S leadership, develop a plan to assess key milestones for scaling each vertical and each channel.

  • Understanding of organic search fundamentals, such as keyword research and competitive analytics
  • Financial acumen, particularly understanding of the drivers of the P&L and an ability to manage those effectively

  • Empirical testing design and execution

Skills & Qualifications

  • At least ten years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree, ideally in an analytically oriented discipline (e.g., business, economics, statistics). An advanced degree is not required, but ideal candidates will have an MBA or equivalent from a top program.
