Three Ships seeks a General Manager of a New Venture. The GM will launch a new business backed by our balance sheet and playbook. The ideal candidate will be a digital native who is excited to build and lead a product from concept to scale up.

Your mission: your role is to build a new P&L, anchored around a new digital product or service. You will develop a product strategy, build and iterate on a product, launch to market, and scale. You will build strong revenue growth and profits, build and lead a capable multi-disciplinary team, and lead the charge on a key growth vector for our overall business.

About our platform: Three Ships has a proven track record of building and scaling profitable digital-first businesses. We see a huge gap between the risk of launching a garage start-up and the boring routine of working in a large corporation to meet quarterly earnings targets. As a private company, we can focus on building long-term value for customers, employees, shareholders, and our communities without the distractions and drama that many large public or PE-owned businesses face.

The General Manager will:

  • Undertake first-party research to deeply understand customer pain points, creating empathy for customers and a point of view on how existing solutions fail to serve them well
  • Build models to size initial opportunities and track KPIs over time.
  • Create a digital product or service that solves those pain points
  • Develop and execute a strategy to acquire customers, leveraging Three Ships’ existing distribution channels
  • Own product development roadmaps and plans to see the projects through from ideation to completion.
  • Build a team that is excited about the mission, the opportunity, and the impact execution
  • Drive effective execution of the operating plan and own the P&L statement, including all levers necessary to achieve strong results
  • Identify acquisitions that are complementary, then negotiate and close them with support as needed from our corporate finance team.
  • Recruit and scale your team, provide outstanding leadership, and create a positive culture.

What It Takes

This role demands a technical understanding of marketplace tools and products, and uncommon resourcefulness. This role marries the opportunity for both product creation and P&L ownership. Important competencies include:

  • 6-8+ years of relevant experience in product, digital media, or digital marketing
  • Financial acumen, particularly an understanding of P&L drivers and an ability to manage those effectively
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to “get in the weeds”

  • Risk appetite with perspective on both learning and financial objectives
  • Ability to think on your feet
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team to hit critical commercial KPIs
  • Persuasive communication skills - an ability to build rapport with C-suite executives and act as the face of the brand
  • Ability to design and sell successful partnerships, then structure, negotiate and close deals
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, economics, or computer science; MBA from a top-tier program preferred but not required
